Tango Class

Last Thursday we were treated to a Tango lesson as part of our program. We went to Luna y Mixterio, a restaurant and tango club. The owners put on a small show for us to show us the different types of tango and then proceeded to teach us some of the basic steps. Tango is much more complicated, in my mind, than some of the other types of dance. However, they kept telling us it was all about how you walk, so we started with walking lessons. It is a very passionate, yet beautiful dance. As the tango expert in our group, Federico, told me, it is all about the man showing off the woman. He also gave some other advice- such as don’t be a noodle, find your axis, extend your legs as you walk…lots of information to keep in your mind. His final piece of advice was, don’t think too hard. Let me tell you, it was hard, fun and something I would enjoy learning more of, but I am still a salsa girl at heart.
