Becoming a Homeowner

I first wrote this on a paper towel while sitting on a floor cushion in an empty family room; my new family room (we bought a house! Woohoo!). My hubby and I decided we would move in slowly since we could and today I brought a load over between feedings and nap times for my little one. But then my baby was fussy and I gave in and fed her after only 1.5 hours, because, well, she was acting hungry and I didn’t think she really ate that much at the last feeding, and well…I just did. And she fell asleep. And stayed asleep. And I realized I was stuck at the new house with boxes of board games, kitchen dishes and a garden that needs to be weeded.
After an hour of work weeding I needed some water and a break so here I am!

Oh the garden! The previous owners were nice enough to plant a garden even though they knew they were moving out. As my husband says, we are just like the Israelites..."When the Lord your God brings you into the land he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to give you—a land with large, flourishing cities you did not build, houses filled with all kinds of good things you did not provide, wells you did not dig, and vineyards and olive groves you did not plant—then when you eat and are satisfied, be careful that you do not forget the Lord, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery (Deuteronomy 6:10-12). However, as I would have done, they have spent the last several weeks packing instead of weeding the garden, so what I inherited looks like this:

I am not discouraged. There are cucumbers, tomatoes, corn and zucchini waiting behind all that grass. Come to me sweet veggies!
Plan: 1 bed a day. So sleeping child= corn patch.

Look at the cute volunteer tomatoes and the green bean in the back I didn’t know was there. About the time I am covered with dirt and literally dripping sweat, I remember I am slightly allergic to grass and I was going to go to the store after this (not to mention a baby will want to nurse when she wakes up!). Now I am not only wearing the same clothes as yesterday without a shower (hey, comfort clothes when you are moving), I now have a new plastered hairdo and red bumps up and down my arms. But my one bed was almost done, so I finished and headed in for some water and a slight rest before tackling an indoor job and the reassurance that I have a roll of paper towels and a sink to make myself presentable.

Side note: I can see why so many stay-at-home moms blog. When stuck at home all day it is your chance to pretend to have grown up conversations, get feedback and have a chance to be witty. The dilemma is time---when the child is napping, do you blog or do the dishes. I can see myself saying to my husband, “Sorry honey, there isn’t any dinner cause I was busy trying to establish some self-worth on social media.”
